YOUTH REVUE TO KICK OFF THEATRE'S "MINI-SLATE" OF PRODUCTIONS

Many phase five "firsts" for the theatre are happening this weekend, as Community Players Inc, in partnership with The Dieken Family Foundation, is staging “Back in the Act,” a musical youth revue to be performed off-site at the Streator City Park Plumb Pavillion Friday and Saturday, June 18 and 19. Besides being the first live presentation to be performed at a remote location under the "Engle Lane Theatre" banner in many years, it's also the first live performance of any kind for the organization since rehearsals came to a halt in March of 2020, effectively postponing that season's entire line up of shows until the spring of 2022.

Co- directed by Lisa Gill and Marlee Reel with musical direction by Emma Reel and choreography provided by Sophia Abbott, "Back in The Act" will showcase the singing, dancing & acting talents of thirty-five young performers, including three original sketches penned by Gill. “Dialogue has come easily for me. And I enjoy it,” she said.

Musically, the revue shows some real range with selections from “Newsies”, “Dear Evan Hansen.” "Mary Poppins Returns" as well as “Somewhere Out There” from the 1986 Disney film “An American Tail”, which Reel noted reflects on some of the isolation many have felt these past fifteen months or so.

Normally, the theatre's youth production is slotted much later in the summer but both directors are thrilled with the prospect of kicking off this year's proposed "mini-slate" of productions. “We wanted to come back as early as possible," Gill noted and Reel added, It’s really nice to be back and see the excitement in the kids’ faces.”

As a "welcome back" to the theatre's loyal patrons these two performances at the Streator Plumb Pavillion will be free of charge though donations will be welcomed. A recent mantra of Reel's in regards to this production has been "Nothing's gonna stop us now!" and the youthful cast of "Back in the Act" is primed and ready to prove her right.

The cast consists of Lily Austin, Brittan Bradley, Tori Campbell, Emilie Castaneda, Eugenia Craig, Elizabeth Davis, Emmalyn Davis, Payton Davis, Sadie Davis, Michaela Flashing, Christian Gill, Rheagan Goluba, Abigail Granados, Olivia Granados, Gretchen Kaschke, Abigail Kimber, Jordan Kirkman, Evan Lake, Devin Lawton, Lily Michael, Brianna Monaghan, Katie Monaghan, Myleigh Muhlstadt, Ted Neuman, Joey Pavlick, Megan Pavlick, Evelyn Penfield, Elizabeth Reel, Melody Reel, Rylee Reel, Gage Richey, Skyleigh Speirer, Connor Treest, Tripp Tomaseski and Mia Welch.
